End of summer reflections with a dear friend.

Stepping over stones, with her beach blanket and bottle of white in hand, we arrived at a shell-peppered beach. We chose our spot to sit, to watch one last summer sunset over the ocean. She was ready to close out a sorrowful season, and I was gearing up to face a daunting one. We sipped, swapping memories and dreams, delighting in each other’s sweet company. Somewhere amid the stories being told, we found ourselves gathering shells to arrange on the blanket. We placed each piece down, like an endless puzzle taking shape, as we attempted to solve what we still couldn’t comprehend. We noted the beautiful parts, the creepy parts, and the iridescent glows, then declared there was something special in it all.

The tangible magic in the memory is what I hoped to capture in this painting. A kind nod to a summer lived and a soft smile of appreciation.
