Perfect places

When there’s a memory of a place that I think about over and over, I want to be able to look at it like I’m really there. That’s what inspired my Perfect Places series. Having too many memories I wanted to paint, I was drawn to a looser style of capturing the image. I wanted to make them feel not too close to reality and to be able to get out as many pictures as possible as the inspiration flowed in. I had become weary of starting projects because my attention to detail kept me working on one piece for endless months. I needed a way to let the vision appear without dread. In this style sometimes a painting can finish in less then a few hours with an abundance of joy. These have to be some of my favourites because of the way they came to be.

Perfect Places -REDEFINED

In the original series “ Perfect Places” I leaned into painting pictures from memories. Real places and things I’ve seen. I call this extension of that series Redefined because these images hold the same amount of memento and feeling but are not places I’ve been or moments I’ve experienced. They’re imagined and more like a dream than anything. These pictures are harder for me to stay present with long enough to get the image to show up on canvas but I’m always grateful and proud when they do.

Sunshine coast

Every painting I’ve done of the Sunshine Coast is of the same island, Anvil. It’s the location of a summer camp I grew up attending as a young camper and later as a volunteer. It was often the highlight of my summers and it is the place I met my husband. If you yourself have not been I hope you can tell it is beautiful there and embodies the serenity of being on the west coast.

Commissions

Where it all began… sort of. Commissions were where I realized that my skills as a painter were more than something to be complimented and actually could be desired. Forever I’ve painted gifts for loved ones as my way to express how I cared for them. I hadn’t considered that these works I poured myself into would have tangible value to anyone else. However, I am beginning to see that they do. I am grateful to the people who support and encourage me and I am deeply moved by those who not just like but love the paintings I create. Thank you to all of you who have already purchased original work and prints. I’m looking forward to this next chapter.
